ADVISORY COMMITTEEADVISORY COMMITTEE

Essential to the successful running of GARNet is the GARNet Advisory Committee, which links GARNet to the community and keeps us up to date with the day to day experiences and issue of researchers. The committee currently consists of 10 elected members, who contribute their time on a voluntary basis. The committee provides GARNet with an oversight body that ensures direct community input to GARNet’s strategy and actions.

Each member serves a term of three years and annual elections are held in November/December to elect new members. The committee is elected from the community to represent and serve the needs of the community. If you would like to know more about becoming a GARNet committee member please get in touch.

In addition to the elected members the committee also includes the GARNet PI (Jim Murray), GARNet Coordinator (Geraint Parry) and three ex-offico members; Ruth Bastow, Sean May and Sabina Leonelli.

From time to time the GARNet Committee receives requests for letters of support for community resource grants. Information regarding letters of support can be found here.

Sabina is a Research Fellow at the ESRC Centre for Genomics in Society, based in the Department of Sociology and Philosophy of the University of Exeter. Her research focuses on the philosophy, history and sociology of science, and particularly on two intersecting topics: (1) the history and philosophy of experimental and modeling practices used in model organism research, with a specific focus on plants; and (2) the philosophy and sociology of cyberinfrastructure and bioinformatics, especially the rhetoric of 'data-driven research', its relation to practices of data handling online and experimentation in vivo, and the role of AI and automation in biological and biomedical research. Sabina has published extensively in journals in the philosophy, history and social studies of biology (e.g. Philosophy of Science, Biology and Philosophy, History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences, Studies in the History and Philosophy of Science), as well as scientific publications such as EMBO reports, Bioessays and Science, and she is currently working on a monograph on the history of research on Arabidopsis thaliana.
