Research in the Wilson lab focusses on molecular genetic analysis of plant reproduction, specifically during pollen and anther development, focusing on the regulatory networks for functional pollen formation, including pollen wall development, programmed cell death, anther dehiscence, and also abiotic stress during pollen formation. Systems Approaches are being used to construct and develop these regulatory networks, which are then being functionally tested by expression analysis, interactions and knockout studies. Work has focused on Arabidopsis, however has now been translated into rice, barley and wheat, with the aim of controlling fertility for breeding and yield enhancement.
